Henry County Cemetery Commission,February 25, 2016

Commission members present: Ann Holmes, Joe Manis, Martha Fraze, Donna Tauber, Bev Glascock

Advisory Board members present: Ken Holmes, Jeff Glascock

Call to Order: 5:58 p.m.

The minutes from the October meeting were not available.

The Treasurer’s report was read and discussed. J. Manis moved to approve; B. Glascock seconded; the motion carried.

Old Business:

    1. Continuing discussion re: the Farley cemetery: we need to check how if the Historical Bureau has guidelines about how far away from the cemetery the sign may be placed. Also need to check regarding an easement.
    2. GIS—currently on hold.

New Business:

    1. The bylaws need to be reviewed.
    2. Election of officers was held. A. Holmes moved to keep the current officers; J. Manis seconded; the motion carried.
    3. D. Tauber handed out information about money available from the County Council through a Food and Beverage Grant. The decision was made that the County Trustees would be polled for input and invited to attend our March meeting to further discuss this.
    4. D. Tauber mentioned that some Commission members need new IDs.
    5. Discussion was held re the possibility of publishing some kind of book and what the topic might be.
    6. D. Tauber handed out term-of-office sheets from the County Council.

Henry County Cemetery Commission,Minutes March 24, 2016

Members: Ann Holmes, Joe Manis, Donna Tauber, Martha Fraze, Bev Glascock

Advisory Board: Ken Holmes, Jeff Glascock

Other: Mike Lykens

Call to Order: 5:58 p.m.

The minutes from the February meeting were approved. J. Manis moved to accept the treasurer’s report; B. Glascock seconded; the motion carried.

Old Business

    1. D. Tauber noted that the 2014-2015 report had been sent to the Indiana Historical Bureau.
    2. More discussion was held re: the Food and Beverage Grant. J Manis moved to apply for the grant; A. Holmes seconded; the motion carried. Several suggestions were made re: the use of the grant funds, including purchasing signs for pioneer cemeteries that lack them; updated brochures about the commission; some kind of recognition for "lost" cemeteries. D. Tauber noted that we would have no difficulty meeting the in-kind contribution requirement.
    3. Book—tabled until a future meeting

New Business

    1. Our budget will be presented to the County Council in June.
    2. Projects: some cemeteries have big stones in need of replacement; Sulphur Springs cemetery needs more work. J Manis and M Lykens were asked to make a list of needs in their township cemeteries for Donna.
    3. D. Tauber noted that we can have some publicity during the state bicentennial celebration and suggested we might use our Day of Caring project.

The meeting was called to order at 6:01p m

The minutes from the March meeting were approved as presented.

There being no changes to the treasurer’s report since last month, it was approved.

Henry County Cemetery Commission, May 26, 2016

Commission members present: D Tauber, J Manis, M Fraze, B Glascock

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p m.

The minutes of the April meeting were approved as presented.

There was no Treasurer’s report.

Old Business:

  1. Copies of the Commission bylaws were distributed for review. They will be brought up again at the June meeting.
  2. Donna and Joe will take care of getting their new badges.
  3. We have been approved for the state bicentennial Legacy Project. A copy of the approval letter will be posted on the website. Donna will do a press release with encouragement for youth group activities.
  4. There was no Glen Cove field trip due to weather conditions.
  5. Our grant application for the Food and Beverage money was among the top 16 accepted. We will be asked to give a 5-minute presentation regarding our in-kind contributions at a later date.
  6. The Fall Creek Township trustee has given a verbal okay for the Commission to work at White Union Cemetery for Day of Caring. A signature form will be obtained and he will be asked to see about using the church restrooms on that day.

New Business:

  1. Donna informed us that Jeannie Regan-Dinius will be the speaker at the Trustee Conference in June.
  2. Discussion was held regarding our contribution to the Bud Bush memorial. Bev moved to donate $250.00; Joe seconded; motion carried.
  3. Donna asked us to be thinking about a Memorial Day project for next year.
  4. Focus for the June meeting will be on signs still needed for pioneer cemeteries and lost cemeteries. Bev, Donna, and Martha will come prepared with 15 suggestions each. Donna will do Dunreith and Farley. If we receive grant money, we will approach the trustees and/or towns involved for additional contributions.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 p m. The next meeting will be June 23, 2016.
